Built in 1897 with funds raised by local residents, the Southwold and District Hospital served the community for over 100 years. But in 2015, the NHS closed the hospital with the intent of selling to the highest bidder. Not wanting to lose such an iconic building, and after a 2-year “David vs Goliath” battle, the residents of Southwold & Reydon partnered with Hastoe Housing to buy the Old Hospital and

A charitable community benefit society named SouthGen was established and redevelopment by Wellington Construction began to transform the Old Hospital into affordable housing and a community hub.

Beginning with the installation of the replica chimneys, SouthGen asked us if we’d continue to document the progress of this historic construction project. As you can see, things are progressing well and we’re looking forward to the privilege of snapping some awesome photos of the finished project.
